Chivalry

I know, I know. It's been FAR too long since I have written anything to you. And for that, I apologize. Every time I think I'll have time to sit and jot down some thoughts here for you guys, I end up bogged down in admin work, or screenings, or real life commitments. I miss engaging with an audience in this way.

So the other day I was having a conversation with a gentleman about chivalry and holding doors for ladies. During this he mentioned that he has actually had younger women yell at him for holding their door open, like, "I don't need you to hold my door. I can do it myself". And to him I said, they aren't ready yet to own their femininity. I know lots of women say, 'I am a Feminist, I don't need men to do a damn thing for me'. To that I say, needing them to, and allowing them to, are two VERY different things. I am a VERY independent woman, but I will sit in the car and wait for the gent to come around and open my door, or stand outside it, enjoying the sites surrounding me until he gets the hint. Now, that isn't the norm because MOST of the men I see are gentlemen, but it happens on occasion. Do you think it's because I can't open my own door? Of course not. It's because I am allowing myself to be in my feminine energy, and encouraging him to embrace his masculine. There is strength in being vulnerable, and allowing others to do things for you, which is also hard for strong, independent women to do. Trust me, it took me a long time to learn that. And it takes being able to balance your masculine and feminine energy, which can be quite challenging for very independent women. But I embrace gentlemen. I love when someone brings or sends me flowers. I love for a gentleman to hold the door open for me, and gently support me as I walk through it. I relish the light touch to the small of the back as we're walking through the restaurant to our table. I smile when he gets up as I walk away to freshen up. These small things say a lot about a man's character, and let me just say, I am here for that energy.

I hope everyone has had an amazing Mother's Day. My amazing one is coming to a close, but it was magnificent.

Have an amazing week, and I'll catch up with you guys soon.

XO,

Shira S.
