It's Been a Minute

Hello all.

I hope that your weekend is starting off at a wondrous pace.

I planned to write a new blog post earlier this week, but there was so much going on (and not all in a positive way), I decided to wait until I was completely feeling good to post. I didn't want you guys seeing me as 'the angry black woman' that we as strong women of color get labeled so easily.

But what I want to share with you today, does have to do with race. It comes from a place of curiosity moreso than contempt. Frustration than anger. It has to do with what seems to be the belief that women of color are expected to be happy with whatever we get. We are expected to keep our rates low, threatened into lack of screening, and abide by the whims of expectations of the review culture which reigns so strong in Texas. Men seem to not have a problem paying girls (often non POC) the rates that often start in the four figures, while attempting to negotiate our rates down to what they deem worthy. They will send a HUGE deposit to some unknown girl electronically, while arguing with us over expecting our funds upon our arrival to their location, as we stand directly in front of them. Please don't think I am at all saying these ladies do not deserve their deposit, because we all do. I am simply saying the negotiation with ladies of color is completely frustrating, and so far reaching in this business that it happens often. I must say, I haven't experienced it as much this time in the business, but it has still presented its ugly head on occasion. And I know I'm not the only lady that deals with it, based on what I see on social media.

I just felt the need to let you guys know, that this is recognized as an attempt to assert power over us. Maybe to feel superior in some way? I don't know why you feel the need to, other than feeling threatened by our strong nature. If you know how to play the game, our strong nature can work to your benefit instead of you thinking its to your detriment. Let that sink in.

I am going to go and enjoy my day.
